Steve Spencer Charity Match.
On Friday, June the 4th, at Cuckney Cricket Club, commencing at 6pm, there will be a charity cricket encounter between ‘England’ and an ‘International’ XI in aid of local cricket stalwart Steve Spencer, who due to illness has become a wheelchair user.

We are looking to raise £1 500 to purchase a top of the range mobility scooter for Steve, so he can get to matches comfortably and without risk of failing to get home.  All who know Steve will want to support this event, I am sure.  His dedication to local cricket, both indoor and outdoor, for his club and the junior league in Mansfield is well known.

The ‘International’ battle will feature the overseas players of many local clubs and is captained by Glapwell’s Aussie, Matt Goodwright.

Captaining ‘England’ is another Glapwell player, Matt Page and he will be joined by Martyn Dobson of Welbeck, Adam Burgess and David Hunt of Cuckney, Matt New of Hosiery Mills, Ian Woodall of Mansfield & Pleasley, Matt Cartwright of Kiveton Park, David Wilcock of Blidworth (who recently hit 267*, a Bassetlaw League record) and others.

The T20 contest will feature white balls and all the glitz that goes with it. English pride is at stake against a quality ‘International’ XI. The match takes place at Cuckney CC, where needless to say, a raffle is organised, you can bid for a signed Notts bat (our appreciation to Stewart Burrows of Notts CCC) and there will be a barbecue and a chance to sample a few!!

There will be a donation of £2 per cark parked.

Hopefully the sun will shine and a good night will be had by all.

Working Party needed Saturday 14th March - 09:30 onwards.
A working party is needed for Saturday the 14th March.  If you can help please either let Mark Parkinson know or just turn up.  It is due to start from 9:30 and it would be appreciated if more could support this as the last one resulted in only a handful of members turning up.  If the work is not completed shortly then the start of the season is very much in doubt.

Here is the list of work that needs doing to get the ground ready:-

- Some topsoil will be purchased to be spread (bring a garden rake - not a grass rake) around the former hedge area prior to fertiliser and seed.
- The outfield needs de-stoning and firework debris picking up.
- The non turf strip needs cleaning with a jet washer and stiff brush.
- The hedge near the bungalow needs cutting and trees pruning - anybody got long handled loppers?
- Netting the bottom of the ground.
- Potholes in car park need filling.
- Roller and tractor both need starting and running.
- The main garage needs emptying, cleaning and re-organising - putting up bracket to hold the new sight screen, throwing out items no longer required.
- The score room needs tidying and smartening up.
- The picnic benches need rubbing down, filling and varnishing.
- The outdoor nets need cable ties and repairing.
- Paint the wood white behind the batters?
- Put a sheet up behind the bowlers.
- Move the roof tiles to allow digging out round the garage to decrease risk of flooding.  Possibly put in brick wall round the garage raise internal floor with layer of concrete.
- Cut the square.
- Fertilise the square.
- Replace broken roof tiles.

- Repair water outlet at the side of the square to reduce flooding.
- Finish pole work for netting system by the bungalow and install netting.

As you can see there is a lot to do. Please don't just leave it to those few that turned up last time. The more that turn up the quicker it will get done!!

Steph who has two sons and three grandsons’ currently playing cricket at the Club, presented the cheque to Carol Barrass, the Manager of the Rotherham Breast Care Unit. Over 70 cricket club volunteers turned up to support Steph at the presentation last Saturday (11th October) evening.

The Club has raised the money with a big raffle which has been strongly supported by sponsored prizes from the local community. Whilst always needing funds to run the Club, club members feel it important to continue to support local charities and hard pressed services, and many of the lady members have used the excellent and important Breast Screening Service at Rotherham District General Hospital.
